Eventful Review
If there’s something going on in your are, Eventful has it listed. The settings options alone for Eventful are large enough that you’ll actually have to sit down and really think about what you want it to show you. There are so many more events in your area than you actually give credit to, so make sure that you don’t pass by something just because you don’t think it’s going to be in your area.
The options available are pretty comprehensive. The only thing that really should be combined is the featured and search tab. These both do essentially the same thing, just one of them lets you search through all the listings while the other makes you browse them.
They have this really interesting function called Demand! that is suppose to alert the band (presumably after a set number of people have made the demand) that you want them to come play near you. You can then follow the band or bookmark them so that you can keep up to speed with what they’re doing in the future.
You’ll be surprised at how much more active you can be if you properly utilize Eventful. This app is definitely something that all social butterflies will want to keep on their iPhone as it will let them know whats going on every single night of the week. Consider giving Eventful a try if you haven’t already done so.
Overall I’d give it a 10/10 for Social events, I love everything about it and think if you used eventfull alot or just wanted to see whats happening in your are its a must have app.
Pixelpipe Review
If you liked Ping.fm you’ve got to check out Pixelpipe. It’s a service that’s been designed for lazy (yet ambitious) folks who want to send photos, videos, and audio clips to multiple services with just one upload.
Like Ping.fm and Hey!Spread all you have to do is plug in your credentials at each service and it does the work for you. There’s a simple Web uploader that lets you pick as many files as you want from a memory card or your hard drive and send them on their way. Repeat users can also pick one of the cross-platform software tools that runs on its own or integrates with existing software like iPhoto and Firefox.
And on the iPhone it’s extremly easy to use, it’s got all the obvious features and is really quick to upload.
Overall I’d give it a 5/10 for Social networking, I dont use the pixelpipe service but im sure if you did it would be very usefull.
Nimbuzz Review
Nimbuzz is a powerful, versatile, fun, and easy-to-use text and voice chat application that lets you connect to virtually every major IM service. Nimbuzz puts MobileMe, AIM, GoogleTalk, Skype, MSN, Nimbuzz’s proprietary service, and even Facebook right in your pocket, with excellent results.
As seems to be the case with most iPhone/iPod touch apps of this type, you’ll need to create a Nimbuzz account before you’re able to use the program. Once that’s completed, you use the program’s Communities area to add all your other accounts. It took me a matter of minutes to set up my Skype, Aim, Facebook, and Google accounts. Once Nimbuzz logged me in, I was able to see all of my AIM buddies, Facebook friends, and anyone in my Skype address book.
Overall I’d give it a 6/10 for Social networking and IM service, I could only give one improvement and that would be to add rooms with mods and voiced users, similar to an IRC chat.
Urban Spoon Review
One of the best apps so far at the App Store is called Urban Spoon. It’s what everybody want’s an app to tell you where to eat and you wont loose you days pay, you can change multiple settings like price, distance ect. i think this app will carter for a lot of different lifestyle’s, for the 18-24 clubber and even a family. Its got everywhere to choose from, I tested this app and saw that it was actually very sophisticated and knew all the restaurants around me. Also its got a lot to give, once you’ve randomly found the restaurant you can call them, get directions and more with a click of a button.
Overall I’d give it a 7/10 for entertainment, and I’d love to see some new features in it like being able to favorite restaurants.
Showtimes Review
The Showtimes app is very usefull, it tells you all the movies on at your local cinema and for free it’s well worth it. If you wanted to checkout a movie then it gives you a yotube preview, times, dates, ratings, reviews ect. another great thing about the app is that using your iPhones or iPod touches GPS it can give you directions directly to the cinema in a simple click. I’m hopeful that soon you might even be able to buy tickets from the Showtimes app.
Overall I’d give it a 8/10 for entertainment and media support, and if you could buy tickets from the Showtimes app then it would revolutionize the iPhone and iPod touch experience.
WordPress Review
I thought my first review should be on what I’m using to make 95% of them with which is the WordPress app, free from the iTunes store. Compared to other WordPress apps and safari it’s self, the WordPress app is alot more orginised, easy to use and to setup. There are no ‘main’ features with the wordpress app, it’s basically like doing it on a computer with a 3.5″ touchscreen. It has all the options like tags, catagory, save style plus a preview and a settings tab for the time and dates of posting. Another great thug is the photos, no need to type out a massive URL it’s all done fir you, just select the image from either your gallery or camera if you using an iPhone and walah* the image is now an attachment to your post. I think the greatest thing about the WordPress app is the UI it’s easy to navigate and looks clean on the eye. Having said that my biggest criticism is the crashing mine crashes every hour, luckily it does save when you crash so the next time you open it a screen pops up saying they recovered lost work so it all works it’s self out.
Overall I’d give it a 7/10 for blogging and social networking, and since they made it free unlike the twitter premium and other blogging apps I think it will really make people get it.
